Kutztown Folk Festival & Civil War History

The Pennsylvania Civil War Road Show is a special feature this year at the Kutztown Folk Festival, June 30 through July 8,  in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Celebrating the Pennsylvania Dutch Culture, this annual event continues to attract upwards of 150,000 visitors per year with demonstrations of traditional crafts by 200 juried American craftsmen, folklife demonstrations, historical reenactments, antiques, traditional music, and dancing associated with the Pennsylvania Dutch.

It also features the largest quilt sale in the nation with more than 2,000 American-made quilts.

"The Civil War impacted every Pennsylvania community, including the Pennsylvania Dutch. Although only one battle was fought in Pennsylvania, the state provided more soldiers and supplies for the Union than any other State except New York,"  according to Dave Fooks, director of the festival.

The traveling exhibition in an expandable 53-foot trailer includes stereoscopic photographs, original compositions of Civil War-era music and sound effects, interactive map, hands-on objects, and animated stories.
