Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Farm Training Project workshops begin on May 22. Designed for and targeted to participants in MOFGA's Apprenticeship Program, they are free and open to anyone interested and participants are invited to stay for a potluck supper and discussion. (Please bring a dish or something fresh from the farm to share.) "Starting with the Soil: Sustainable Soil Management" will take place Wednesday, May 22, at Six River Farm, and at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Village Farm in Freedom. Topics include organic soil fertility management, use of rotation, composting, green manures, cover crops and tillage strategies to enhance the health and productivity of farm soil. A new farmer focus group focused on agritourism will gather on Wednesday, May 22 in Vermont to talk about best practices in hosting visitors on Vermont farms.
This event begins a three-year project coordinated by the Vermont Farms Association and Shelburne Farms.
