From the organization's site "South of Hartford the Connecticut River winds through 4,500 acres of open land . . . an oasis of green in the urban sprawl of Greater Hartford. Cultivated since prehistoric times, the farmland with its plentiful water supply is some of the most valued in the world."
Also doing good works where the waters flow, are the people of the Connecticut River Coastal Conservation District Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Middletown, who work to conserve the natural resources of the lower Connecticut River watershed and coastal areas.
