Backyard Bird Count, It's Time



The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that continues through Monday, Feb. 21. Bird watchers of all ages can participate to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Free.

Participants count birds anywhere for as little or as long as they wish during the four-day period, then tally the highest number of birds of each species seen together at any one time. Reports may be filed online or mailed in.

Bald Eagles, Peak Time To See


The Shepaug Dam Bald Eagle Observation Area in Southbury observation area is now open for bald eagle viewing.

The Connecticut Audubon Society staff and volunteers will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday through mid-March from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations are required.
