Give Thanks, Then T.Rex, Farm, Light The Water

There's a great tidal inflow and outflow for the holiday weekend. After the feasting and talking, time to go walking and looking.

'Tis the start of the season to visit farms - too soon for sleigh rides - but Deerfield Farm holiday fest on Saturday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the farm, corner of Pent Road and Parmelee Hill, Durham. Crepes and coffee, fresh from the farm dairy products, live music, local products from artisans. For more information, call (860) 301-7828.

Want to share the magic of twinkling colored lights, boats on parade, shops all decked out, and reflections of all in the water? The annual Mystic Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is Saturday, Nov. 28, in downtown Mystic.

Santa arrives by tugboat at 2 p.m., at the dock of the Mystic River Park to greet the crowds and listen to all the children’s holiday wishes.

At 6 p.m., the holiday tree will be lit, followed by a lighted boat parade, at 6:20 pm. Vessels of all types will sail up and down the Mystic River, donned with holiday lights and decorations. For more information and tips on parking, see www.mysticchamber.org.
For something really different, check out the “Twelve Dinosaurs of Christmas” at Dinosaur Crossing in Oakdale.

The second annual event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut.

The fun opens on Friday, Nov. 27; then happens on weekends from Nov. 28 to Dec. 20; daily from Dec. 26 to Jan. 3, 2010.
