French ambassador to the United States Ambassador Pierre Vimont saw the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and toured sites in Vermont as part of the effort to mark the recent enactment of legislation that created the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail.
Ambassador Vimont is traveling through New England to promote France and its historical ties to the United States.
He stopped in Vermont to join the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Lake Champlain by the 17th century French explorer Samuel de Champlain, who also founded Quebec City in Canada.
The trail commemorates the route a combined French and American force traveled from Rhode Island to Yorktown, Virginia, where they defeated the British in 1781.

Ride For Freedom, History Is Action

Things that appear to be free are not always the best bargain. In business and in life.
These riders accompanied the celebration that marked the importance of Wethersfield, General George Washington, Rochambeau, and the ideas the two men discussed while in Connecticut.
More about the work to preserve the route these men took in their battle for freedom and independence that took them across eight present-day states, where you can still see remants of encampments or visit historic houses.
Below, another reminder of vigilance. Crowds gather in New York at the site of Ground Zero to remember, and to learn the lessons once again about freedom and personal action.
