Gift Idea - Make Maple Syrup Know-How
Sweet. A three-part course on the how-tos of making maple sugar will be offered starting Dec. 2 at the Goodwin Forest Conservation Education Center. Topics include tapping maple trees, collecting and storing sap, and making and packaging syrup. Whether you want to make a few gallons or run a commercial operation, this course will provide the fundamentals essential to making a good, consistent product.
Two weekday evening sessions and one Saturday morning session at a working maple sugaring operation are included in the $40 fee. (Participants also get a North American Maple Syrup Producers manual.) Experienced maple producers will also be available after the course to help put that learning into practice.
The course is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, the Maple Syrup Producers Association of Connecticut and the Department of Environmental Protection.
