Connecticut Vegetable & Small Fruits Conference is Thursday, Jan. 20, at Tolland County Agricultural Center, Vernon. Registration is $30 at the door. Sponsored by University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System, USDA UConn Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture, The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.

Raise Show Sheep, 4Hers Program

The annual UConn Cooperative Extension 4-H Sheep Program will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 for all youth interested in raising or showing sheep at UConn Storrs Campus, Ratcliffe Hicks Arena.

This year junior participants (7-12 years old) will use an enviroscape to learn about waste management, how to vaccinate sheep and what vaccinations they need, and how to judge sheep and score their sheep’s body condition.

Senior participants (ages 13-19) will have a judging workshop, learn about feed requirements, and analysis of feed and hay and a workshop on cooking lamb and its nutritional value.
