Llama Yarn, Llamas As Pets At Lakeside

Lakeside Feed in Guilford, Connecticut, has llama yarn and can help you find a llama to love if you are even thinking about one. They have new babies yearly and also some yearlings available. Prices begin at $800.

Ask Toni, who owns the store with husband Jerry Schiano, about why llamas are so easy to love and make great pets. The Schianos have been raising animals since 1978.

Three Days of Fiber, Arts, Studios, Farms

Head for the Maine Fiber Arts Tour Weekend, Friday, Aug. 6, Saturday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 8, a three-day special event featuring more than 50 studios, farms, shops and galleries open to the public.

Workshops, demonstrations galore about traditional crafts such as basketmaking and quilting to knitting, spinning and nontraditional uses to art.

Maine Fiberarts is a statewide arts nonprofit formed to support fiber and to foster its special work in basketry, beadwork, clothing design, crochet, embroidery, felting, knitting, lacework, needlework, paper, quilting, rugs, sewing, spinning, surface design, and weaving.

Goals include to "create greater opportunities for artists to exhibit work, to apprentice, to mentor, to teach crafts to children" and more.

SOS Fiber and Arts Events

Meet new people, learn or just talk fiber and related arts at a SOS Fiber and Arts Fleecy meeting at Connecticut College, inside the computer room, Hamilton Dorm complex, 270 Mohegan Ave.

Drop in and stay as long as you like.

As always, visitors are welcome to join the project at hand or bring you own project and join the group for the good conversation and lunch in the Student Dining Hall.
