Editor's note: Weather forecasting was spot on this weekend when Hurricane Irene's track gave time for people to hunker down and cancel outdoor events and get livestock fed and out of harm's way - or as comfortable as possible. By Saturday, fairs in the region were cancelled and people sent home after Saturday's activities wrapped up.
The Chester Fair, which started in 1877 is Friday, Aug. 26, Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28 in Chester, Connecticut.
A family-perfect event with grounds that are mostly flat and walkable - perfect for seniors to anyone pushing a stroller.
Live music with trees shading the seating. Horse, pony and oxen pulls. Barns with livestock exhibits and demonstrations.
Parking is in a big hay field; drop off folks at the gate, park, then return to get tickets.
