Winter Riding Learning At UConn Offered

The University of Connecticut Department of Animal Science offers a winter riding program, Jan. 4 through Jan. 22

The three-week session offers beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced and more style options (Western, dressage).

Rates range from $105 to $315, depending on frequency.

Riders must sign up for a minimum of three lessons. Class size is 4 to 6 riders and plan for an hour, plus cool down and tack cleaning time.

Alena Meacham, lecturer and director of UConn's Equestrian Program also coaches the UConn Dressage and equestrian teams. She is experienced in balanced seat riding and specializes in hunter jumpers, along with dressage.

Riders must be 12 years of age or older with the ability to tack up their own horse and mount up.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

In 1985, Mustad International Group acquired the nails operation of Capewell and founded Capewell Horsenails Inc. now located in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
